April 18, 2011

As a part of the Week of Russian Business – 2011, the Institute of Contemporary Development held the roundtable Modernization of Criminal Law in the Economic Sphere: Prospects for Decreasing Coercive Pressure on Business.

During the event, the discussion focused on opportunities for truly reducing criminal repression of business activities through changes in legislation.

The key topics of discussion were:

- Is it sufficient for the State Duma to consider the proposed amendments of the Russian Criminal Code in order to free Russian business of risks arising from baseless criminal prosecution?
- Will these amendments facilitate the normalization of business processes?
- Do the amendments set the correct trajectory for reform of criminal law?
- What are the prospects for an amnesty of those already convicted of crimes according to economic areas of the current criminal code?
