Innovative Development is the Basis for Russia’s Economic Modernization

A roundtable discussion entitled “Innovative Development: the Basis of Russia’s Economic Modernization” was held at the Institute of Contemporary Development.
 
Participants included Igor Yurgens, Chairman of the Institute of Contemporary Development; Dmitry Milovantsev, Vice Chairman of the Institute of Contemporary Development; Alexander Putilov, General Director of the All-Russia Scientific and Research Institute for Inorganic Materials; as well as other experts, including representatives of scientific circles and businesses.
 
The participants discussed a report on the current state, potential and direction of innovative development in Russia, which was prepared by the business community.
 
The necessity of a transition from a strategy of developing science and innovation to a strategy of innovative development was noted during the discussion. It is necessary to increase the quality and expand the scale of scientific proposals, stimulate demand for technology and innovation in the non-financial sector of the economy, and develop human capital.
 
The participants specified the projected directions for the development of innovation in Russia. These include information and communications technologies, industries of nanosystems and materials, live systems, medicine and healthcare, rational management of natural resources, energy and its conservation, aerospace and transport systems, security, manufacturing systems and commercial infrastructure.
 
The experts agreed that it is necessary to forward the report to state corporations, businesses, research centers, executive and legislative organs, specialized universities and other interested parties for comprehensive analysis.
