INSOR Conference Focuses on Role of Oil & Gas Sector in Raising Effectiveness of Resource Use in Russian Economy

On May 17 the Institute of Contemporary Development held a conference on the Role of the Oil & Gas Sector in Raising the Effectiveness of Resource Use in the Russian Economy.

Participants of the event included director of the Department of Oil and Gas Refining of the Ministry of Energy  Pyotr Degtyarev, director of the Institute of Oil and Gas Problems Anatoly Dmitrievsky, director of the Topchiev Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis Salambek Khadzhiev, President of the Russian Chemists Union Victor Ivanov, and many other respected experts and academics in the oil and gas and petrochemical sector as well as directors of Russian and international companies.

INSOR Chairman Speaks at Asia-Europe Foundation Seminar

Asia-Europe Foundation hosted the seminar, “Russia in the Next Decade and Cooperation with Asia” with the keynote speech given by Igor Yurgens, Management Board Chairman of the Institute of Contemporary Development. Igor Yurgens shared his insights on the current thinking of influential policy makers in Russia. “Russians today crave stability…the nation is tired; it has lost its soul a little bit,” he said.

International Conference on Climate Policy Held at INSOR

The Institute of Contemporary Development held an international conference on Market Mechanisms for Climate Policy. The main objective of the conference was to discuss trends in the development of national and international systems of carbon emission trade, prospects for the development and conjoining of such systems in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine and the organizational and economic problems related to the participation of CIS airlines in the European Trading System.

INSOR Management Board Meets

An expanded meeting of the Management Board of the Institute of Contemporary Development was held on April 20. The agenda focused on a review of INSOR’s work in 2010 and discussion of the organization's focus areas in 2011. In 2010 INSOR held over 100 events of various scale and level – conferences, forums, roundtable discussions, seminars and expert meetings with leading Russian and foreign experts.

INSOR acted as the co-organizer of a number of major forums, such as the World Policy Forum in Yaroslavl under the auspices of the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, the Tver Social-Economic Forum “Information Society”, a joint conference with colleagues from Latvia and presentation of the Yaroslavl forum in Riga, among others.

Roundtable on Modernization of Criminal Law in the Economic Sphere Held at INSOR

As a part of the Week of Russian Business – 2011, the Institute of Contemporary Development held the roundtable Modernization of Criminal Law in the Economic Sphere: Prospects for Decreasing Coercive Pressure on Business.

During the event, the discussion focused on opportunities for truly reducing criminal repression of business activities through changes in legislation.

The Institute of Contemporary Development and the Commission for Development of Philanthropy and Volunteerism of the Russian Civic Chamber held public hearings on proposed amendments to parts of the Civil Code that regulate the activities of noncommercial organizations.

Meeting of Expert Consultation Group of Presidential Council for Development of an Information Society

The Institute of Contemporary Development hosted a meeting of the expert consultation group of the Presidential Council for Development of an Information Society in the Russian Federation. The group discussed the realization of plans for the development of information society and the formation of e-government for regions of Russia within the Central Federal District.

INSOR Presents Major Report – Attaining the Future: Strategy 2012

The Institute of Contemporary Development held a presentation of the report Attaining the Future: Strategy 2012. Synopsis. The report consists of two parts, and is a continuation of INSOR’s project Russia in the 21st Century: Vision for the Future, which was launched last year and provoked a serious and broad discussion about the future of the country.

One of the most frequent questions poised to the authors of the report was how exactly should the first steps be taken toward achievement of this “vision.” In the new report the authors propose their scenario for this plan, a sort of road map that could serve as a launching point for public discussion.

INSOR Publishes 2010 Annual Report

For Russia, the year 2010 was a time of vigorous discussion of both the specific tasks and general framework of the country’s modernization: How do we see our future? What resources are available to achieve the goals set out before us? Are we capable of making substantial efforts to achieve these ends? Is society prepared to play an active role in the modernization process rather than that of an observer?

INSOR Hosts Presentation of Report on Development and Application of Antimonopoly Legislation in Russia

The Institute of Contemporary Development held a presentation of a report titled Development and Application of Antimonopoly Legislation in Russia: Along the Path of Achievement and Delusion.

The report, which was prepared by a group of researchers of the Institute of Industrial and Market Studies (IIMS) of the National Research University – Higher School of Economics, was presented by IIMS Deputy Director Svetlana Avdasheva.
