Crisis vs Stable Social Order

December 11, 2008

The Institute of Contemporary Development held an expert discussion on Crisis vs Stable Social Order: Social Risks and Ways to Manage Them.  The event was organized together with the Public Opinion Foundation, whose social survey served as a basis for discussion.

The discussion focused on the various aspects of the population’s perceptions of and concerns about the economic crisis, the sensitivities of different social groups, changes in key social indicators, and topical problems of the stability of social order in such conditions.  The experts considered how best to monitor social economic and political indicators as expressions of the crisis.

INSOR Presents Report on Development of Democracy in Russia

The Institute of Contemporary Development presented its analytical report “Democracy: Development of the Russian Model”.  Initial drafts of this report and were first discussed at the Institute in June, following which the comments and criticism of experts participating in the discussion were taken into consideration in drafting the final report.
 

How the Financial Crisis Is Impacting Russia’s Regions

The Institute of Contemporary Development hosted a roundtable discussion on “The Impact of the Financial Crisis on Russia’s Regions”.  INSOR’s expert community has been taking a long and close look at the global financial crisis and this discussion was led by Andrei Blokhin, an advisor to INSOR’s Social and Economic Development Department.  Mr. Blokhin noted that previous discussions have shown that despite the forecasts of economists and their warnings about changes ahead, for many this crisis turned out to be a big surprise.  Consequently, the response to the crisis has been chaotic.
 

Nutrition and School Food Are the Focus of Discussion at INSOR Roundtable

The Institute of Contemporary Development (INSOR) held a roundtable on “The School Food Industry: A business and a path to a healthy nation”. The discussion was led by INSOR Management Board Member and the head of the Center for Social Policy Evgeny Gontmakher.
 

Russia-US Relations: A New Agenda

November 25, 2008

The Institute of Contemporary Development held an expert discussion on “Russia-US Relations: A New Agenda”. A number of well-known Russian specialists participated in this event, which was moderated by INSOR Chairman Igor Yurgens.

During the discussion, it was decided that it would be topical and prudent to formulate constructive suggestions with regard to Russia-US relations in the form of a report that would be presented in early 2009.

Experts Consider Social and Political Consequences of Financial Crisis

The Institute of Contemporary Development has held a conference on “The Social and Political Consequences of the Financial Crisis for Russia”. The discussion was led by President of the Center for Political Technologies Igor Bunin.
 
The participants of the discussion included INSOR Chairman Igor Yurgens, members of INSOR’s Management Board Alexander Auzan and Evgeny Gontmakher, Director of the Center for Postindustrial Society Studies Vladislav Inozemtsev, head of socio-cultural studies department at Levada Center Alexey Levinson and other experts.

The Institute of Contemporary Development has held a round table “Global Crisis’ Impact on Macroeconomic Situation in Russia. Discussion of the World Bank’s Report”. The discussion was led by Nikita Maslennikov, Advisor to INSOR.
 

German-Russian Forum Focuses on Social Policy and Labor Relations

November 18, 2008

November 17-18, a Russian-German expert forum “Creation of Social Policy. Social and Labor Relation” was held at the Institute of Contemporary Development. The forum marked the beginning of a long research project with the participation of INSOR, the Institute of Economy at the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Ebert Foundation (Germany). The project is aimed at defining new components of the ‘social state’ concept, which is fixed in the both of the countries’ constitutions, studying peculiarities of social partnership during globalization, exchanging experience and searching for new solutions in the social sphere and labor relations.

Experts Examine Crisis’ Impact on Real Sector of Economy

An expert discussion “The Crisis’ Impact on the Real Sector of Economy” was held in the Institute of Contemporary Development on November 14. The discussion was led by Nikita Maslennikov, Advisor to the Institute of Contemporary Development.
 
The participants in the discussion were: Director of the Expert Club of Industry and Energy Georgy Afanasiev, Director for Strategy and Corporate Development at SUEK Anna Belova, Advisor of the General Director at Rosatom Igor Leshukov, Chief Economist of the Center of Development Valery Mironov and other experts.
