VIII Information Society Forum Held in Tver

The VIII Tver Social-Economic Forum “Information Society” was held June 30 – July 1, organized by the Association of Managers and the Institute of Contemporary Development. Expert support was provided by the Institute of the Information Society (IIS) and financial support was provided by the Executive Office of the President of the Russian Federation and the Administration of the Tver Region.

This forum is held each year and is traditionally dedicated to issues concerning the current situation in the information society and prospects for its development.

The ceremony was opened by Tver Region Governor Andrei Shevelev. He read a welcoming message from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in which the president expressed his hope that “the forum would facilitate the achievement of modernization tasks in the economic and social spheres.”

During the plenary session presentations were made by Alexei Popov, Director of the Department of Information Technology and Communication of the Government of the Russian Federation; Olga Dergunova, Member of the executive Board of  VTB; Yuri Khokhlov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IIS; Timur Farukshin, Director for Consulting at IDC in Moscow; Igor Agamirzyan, General Director of the Russian Venture Company; Nikolai Pryanishnikov, Prsident of Microsoft Russia; Farit Husnoyarov, Deputy General Director of Medialogy; State Duma Deputy Ilya Ponomarev, and others.

The forum included two plenary meetings and then separate thematic sections. Also as within the framework of this event was an exhibition demonstrating innovative solutions using information and communication technologies.
