The Institute of Contemporary Development hosted a roundtable “Modernization in Russia. To be or not to be?” The event was organized by the national social movement “Go Russia!”
The roundtable was chaired by Gennady Gudkov, Deputy Head of the Duma Security Committee. Among the speakers were Head of Yabloko political party Sergei Mitrokhin, member of the federal political council of the party the Union of Right Forces Boris Nadezhdin, Chairman of the social movement Russia's Choice Vladimir Ryzhkov, Member of the State Duma Committee for Economic Policy and Entrepreneurship Valery Zubov, a renowned civil and human rights lawyer Leonid Olshansky etc.
Representatives of the Institute of Contemporary Development welcomed the intention of the new social movement to gather public figures and politicians from various parties (from United Russia to The Union of Right Forces, and from Just Russia to The Communist Party of the Russian Federation and Yabloko) in order to discuss burning issues related to modernization of Russia. This intention is fully in line with the idea featuring in the President’s article “Go, Russia!”: “I would invite all those who share my convictions to get involved. I would also invite those who do not agree with my ideas but sincerely desire change for the better to be involved as well.” Experts of the Institute of Contemporary Development realize that their opinions on certain issues may run counter to those expressed by the leaders of the new movement. However, all INSOR experts are well aware of the fact that indifference is a much graver threat for modernization, than disputes on the best way to implement modernization unsupported by any actions.
