German-Russian Forum on Formation of Social Policy Held in Berlin

The fourth German-Russian expert forum Formation of Social Policy has been held in Berlin, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Development and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. For four years now Russian and German experts have been gathering in Russia and Germany to discuss the most critical problems in social policy, including such issues as formation and development of the social state, labor regulation issues and the peculiarities of social labor relations, social security systems, and ways for decreasing poverty.

This year the forum focused on the issue of migration in Germany and Russia. Participants included representatives of the Russian Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, the Russian Migration Service, Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the National research University – Higher School of Economics, Institute of Contemporary Development and nongovernmental organizations. Representatives of executive and legislative bodies as well as the academic community and civil society of Germany took active part in the forum.

The presentations and discussions of forum participants were indicative of the importance and topicality for our countries of the problems stemming from the current demographic situation, the complexity of migration and integration problem, the need for discussions and dialogue on the main approaches and methods to solving these difficult social issues.
